Petty has over three decades of experience as the CEO of national trade associations in the trucking industry. He has served for nearly twenty-three years as President and CEO of the National Private Truck Council, the national trade association founded in 1939 representing the private motor carrier industry. Petty is Private Fleet Editor and Columnist for FleetOwner Magazine and writes monthly articles about successful managers and business models in the private fleet market.
A native of Michigan, Petty graduated with B.A. and M.A. degrees from Western Michigan University; a Ph.D. degree from The University of Michigan, and a J.D. degree from Widener University School of Law. Earlier in his career, he was a college administrator, practicing attorney, and board chair of a lobbying group for national trade associations.
