Alexandria, VA – Tom Moore, CTP, a veteran trucking industry communications and educational leader, has joined the National Private Truck Council (NPTC) as Executive Director of the NPTC Institute and Vice President of Public Affairs, according to an announcement by Gary F. "Tom brings a strong track record of professional communications, training and educational experience to the members of our association," said Petty. "I have great confidence in his leadership and the team's ability to continue our success in delivering strong, effective and relevant membership services and development throughout the private fleet community."

For the past five years, Moore has been a consultant for NPTC, helping deliver the group's training and certification programs. In his new role, he will have responsibility for the Fleet Management Institute, the Fleet Learning Center, the CTP program promotion and preparation training; the NPTC Member Match backhauling program; and the annual Benchmarking/Best Practices programs. In addition, he will help in key membership outreach efforts including media relations, publications, website coordination, and meetings.

"Tom has a25 year connection with NPTC going back to the early 1980s, and is a well-liked and well-respected resource and friend of the private fleet industry," according to Petty. "His full-time appointment gives NPTC additional staff capacity and expertise to strengthen and grow services and programs in many key areas."

After graduating from Wake Forest University with a degree in politics, Moore went to work as a reporter for a trucking industry publication and two years later was named special assistant to the president of an industry trade association.

In 1984, he was named editor of The Private Carrier, the monthly publication for the Private Carrier Conference, and two years later he was promoted to executive director of the trade association. It was under his tenure that the Private Carrier Conference merged with the Private Truck Council of America to create what today is known as the National Private Truck Council.

Prior to starting his own strategic marketing communications company in 2001, Moore served as editor of nationally-known magazines in the trucking industry and as public relations director for a regional port authority.
