NPTC Inducts Four into Driver Hall of Fame

ARLINGTON, VA – Four truck drivers who have together logged more than 14 million miles of safe driving in more than 140 years of service were honored by the National Private Truck Council (NPTC) and inducted into the NPTC/Bridgestone Bandag Tire Solutions Driver Hall of Fame during the Annual Education Management Conference and Exhibition held April 29 – May 1, 2012 in Cincinnati, OH.

The drivers are from NPTC member companies and have met the minimum qualifications of 20 years, two million miles or 50,000 hours of driving without a preventable accident. Many of the drivers have far exceeded these qualifications and are known for having made significant contributions to their industry and their communities. Since its inception, 100 drivers have been installed in the Driver Hall of Fame.

This year’s Driver Hall of Fame inductees are:

Robert Dorn
CVS Transportation, LLC
North Augusta, SC

Robert (Bobby) Dorn has racked up 3.6 million miles in 35 of professional driving without an accident or a moving violation. He began his career working on heavy equipment unloading lumber at an Edgefield, SC-lumber mill and didn’t start driving until he was 22 years old when he was hired by Graniteville Company. After six years, he joined Revco, which was subsequently bought by CVS. In his time with Revco and CVS, he has accumulated 3.1 million miles in over-the-road delivery. Currently he runs approximately 3,000 miles per week, delivering to retail stores throughout North and South Carolina. In addition to numerous safe driving awards, Bobby has achieved distinction for his customer service, proper loading and unloading procedures and training.

Corwin Grace
Kellogg Company
Tracy, CA

In 38 years of professional truck driving, Cory has driven 3.25 million miles without a blemish on his driving record – no accidents of any kind and no moving violations. More than half of those total miles were accumulated driving doubles. After working for C&M Trucking hauling rock and sand for three years, he joined ARA Services where he delivered vending machines and drove an armored truck. Five years later in 1983, he joined Keebler, which was subsequently bought by Kellogg’s. In his 29 years with Keebler and Kellogg’s, he has racked up 2.33 million miles of safe driving delivering cookies, crackers and snack bars throughout Northern California. Cory was chosen for the NPTC National Driver All-Stars Award in 2011.

Henry Pollitz
Frito-Lay Inc.
Pulaski, TN|

Henry started driving professionally in 1972 and worked for four companies before settling in with Frito-Lay in 1980. In his 37 years behind the wheel, Henry has achieved 3.5 million miles without an accident of any kind and without any moving violations. He currently drives about 3,000 miles per week delivering cookies, crackers and chips in over-the-road applications throughout the southeast and northeast regions. Henry is a certified trainer and remains actively engaged as chairman of Frito-Lay’s on-site Traffic Safety Committee. He also serves as a volunteer fireman.

Steve Royse
Kraft Foods, Inc.
Champaign, IL

Steve started with Kraft Foods in 1970, but it took him four years to get behind the wheel. Since he started driving 37 years ago, he has accumulated 3.6 million miles with no accidents of any kind and no moving violations. He drives 600 miles a day through the entire Midwest delivering Kraft product to customers and distribution centers and is noted for his customer service attitude. In addition to numerous internal awards, Steve was chosen for the NPTC National Driver All-Stars Award in 2010. As one of Kraft’s driver trainers, Steve accompanies new drivers for their first two weeks on the road.
