Dear Private Truck Professional:
Welcome to the National Private Truck Council, the only trade association in the United States devoted exclusively to the interests of the private corporate trucking fleet industry and its professional practitioners. NPTC represents a cross-section of American manufacturers, distributors, retailers, and public service organizations ranging in size from family-owned small businesses and town utility fleets to Fortune 500 global conglomerates.
NPTC's Board of Directors is represented by many well-known American companies such as Wal-Mart, Mennel Milling, Kraft Foods, Custard Insurance Adjusters, J. J. Keller & Associates, General Mills, Frito-Lay, Kellogg's, Meijer, Medline, Schwan Foods, Albertson's/Safeway, Hillyard, Paccar Leasing and Britt Hunt Company.
Several other of the nation's top companies like Target Stores, Praxair, Marathon Petroleum, CVS/Caremark, Volvo/Mack, Omnitracs, Linde, PACCAR, SuperValu, Univar, McKee Foods, Weyerhaeuser, Kellogg's, Sysco, Daimler Trucks, and hundreds of others are active in NPTC and represented on the association's important policy forums such as the Legislative & Regulatory Advisory Committee, Safety Committee, Conference Planning Committee, PR/Marketing Committee, Membership Committee, and the NPTC Institute's Board of Governors.
Membership from these and hundreds of other companies is made up of leading middle and upper-middle management professionals. They are results-oriented men and women holding demanding positions in the corporate distribution field. They look to NPTC as a primary source for new, more efficient ways of adding value and reducing costs, improving service, implementing best practices, and producing better results for their companies.
Active members also find in NPTC an ideal environment for business networking. We strive to be a cordial and friendly organization which attracts practical, down-to-earth people willing to help fellow members. NPTC prides itself in being a "we" organization. We look for ways of building consensus on policy issues affecting both the association and its member companies.
The National Private Truck Council's history reaches back to l939. Founded as the National Council of Private Motor Truck Owners, the group strictly focused on in-house private truck fleets separate and apart from for-hire trucking firms. Over the years, NPTC adapted to changing market conditions.
With the trends of consolidation, merger and outsourcing over the past decade, NPTC has become a more blended association. Membership is open to all interest parties in the business including private truck fleet companies or divisions, dedicated fleet service providers, for-hire trucking companies, third-party logistics companies, truck and maintenance leasing companies, and allied/vendor suppliers of all sizes.
The primary reasons for joining NPTC are advocacy, education, and professional advancement and recognition. NPTC is the only voice in the Nation's Capital speaking exclusively on behalf of private trucking fleets and their affiliated service providers. Our Safety Compliance Committee is one of the most active and valuable sources of information in the truck transportation field.
NPTC's Institute provides the only source of comprehensive private fleet training courses leading up to the Certified Transportation Professional¨ (CTP) designation, the officially recognized certification program in the private truck fleet industry with over 550 active individual participants. NPTC's annual recognition and awards program identifies and honors each year more than 75 top professionals and companies.
This is a challenging and exciting time to be a part of NPTC. Our nation and its leaders seek to build a stronger, safer and more security-driven transportation system. Trucking will be a major focus of public and media attention. NPTC and the private trucking community will play a key role in shaping the public debate and the new government regulations which will inevitably unfold.
Getting involved and staying active in NPTC is best way to help ensure that you have a part in building a better company, a better industry and an even greater United States of America.
